Sat, March 6, 7:30pm Stage Door presents award-winning New York singer-songwriter Kaydi Johnson and acoustic soul act Allison & Victor. With a guitar as her instrument, Kaydi “rolls forceful and racy lyrics into short stories and cinematic slices of life. Her lyrics and music find new ways to explore such themes as living, loving, politics and love lost. Kaydi’s songs stay with you long after they have ended.”Her eagerly awaited third CD, "Peasant of the Wreck," (produced by David Seitz- Moby, Bruce Springsteen) transcends the safety of your garden-variety composition. Kaydi has shared the stage with David Crosby, Robert Earl Keene and Lucy Kaplansky. With guitar, vocals, and saxophone, “Allison & Victor’s sound blends elements of folk, jazz, blues, European and Latin music, all of which translates into a laid-back, tranquil vibe that tends to put people at ease,” according to entertainment reporter, Jim Dyar. Featuring a stellar array of musicians within the State of Jefferson, they have just released a brand new CD, “Cool like the Breeze” recorded by Ron Davis (grammy-award-winning engineer Monterey Jazz Festival 2007, Terrence Blanchard). They’ve also shared the stage with the likes of Craig Chaquico, Shana Morrison,Archie Lee Hooker, blues legend John Hammond, and the Blind Boys of Alabama. Kaydi and Allison met while stranded by a snow storm in the Redding Airport a couple of years back. Their friendship and music aspirations literally struck a chord and they, along with Victor, performed a few shows on the California Coast. According to Victor, “Playing with Kaydi is a joy and a good match, so we decided to do some more shows together.” $10 cover charge. Fri, March 12, 8pm: Harper And Midwest Kind Bring World Blues Fusion From Australia An amalgamation of blues, rock, funk, soul and world music, Australian singer/ songwriter "Harper" creates a heady mix of roots jam music through his creative use of the harp, and the haunting drone of the didgeridoo. Borrowing from western and world music, this musical visionary develops a highly original take on the roots genre. Chip Eagle, Publisher of Blues Revue/ Blueswax USA described Harper recently as “ the most exciting act on the live scene today” (Aug 22, 2009-Chenango Blues Fest, New York). Carol Borringon from the UK’s biggest blues magazine “Blues Matters” stated “Harper is going to be huge in the UK” - The Great British RnB Festival, Colne, England , August 31, 2009. 2009 was Harper's biggest year yet with 30 major festivals, many of which he headlined in five different countries. His latest CD "Day By Day" (Blind Pig Records , USA ) has received world wide acclaim and international air play. "Harper's vocals are often howls of pain. Harper's music is primal. It goes way inside, creating honest, deeply felt emotions. It is joyful and painful at the same time. And another thing -- Harper's music is essential" (Rambles Magazine, USA). On his most recent UK tour Harper's live show was described as " strong, expressive, at times pain- ridden vocals were interspersed with some top class electronic harp playing and the unearthly and soul wrenching call of the didgeridoo" (Blues Matters, United Kingdom). During a recent tour a Harper live session was aired world wide on BBC London on the Paul Jones Show. Paul Jones described Harper as “extraordinary”. UK’s legendary bluesman: John Mayall was so impressed with Harper that he included Harper’s song “Just What Your’e Looking For” on his latest release “Tough” (Eagle Records). Now based in Michigan, USA, Harper's killer tour schedule of 250+ shows per year has gained him a grassroots US and international following. Harper will be releasing his third CD called “Stand Together” through Blind Pig Records on May 11, 2010. Harper is a multi award winning singer/ songwriter in Australia- winning awards for "Best Male Vocalist" "Song of the Year", "Band of the Year" - (Australian Blues Awards) and "Acoustic Artist of Year"-(TREV awards). Harper is backed by his incredible Michigan based band "Midwest Kind" featuring Drew Pentkowski on guitar, Marc Dixon on drums/ timbales and Chris Wiley Smith on bass guitar.
